Terms of Service:
These Terms of Service are applicable to our hiking products. If you are exclusively purchasing books from our online store, then the following terms of service do not apply.
By making a payment to reserve a hike, you are acknowledging that you have read, understood, and consented with the Burgess Shale Geoscience Foundation’s: Refund and Cancellation Policy, Waiver Form, and Privacy and Data Collection Policy.
If your booking includes minor(s) you are acknowledging that you have read, understood, and consented with the Acknowledgement of Risk Form and Unaccompanied minor statement.
1. Refund and Cancellation policy
If we are unable to offer the service that you paid for, we will provide you with a full refund, minus a $5 processing fee (per booking invoice).
If you cancel your reservation and you provide us with:
14 days (or more) notice prior to your scheduled hike date, you are eligible for a full refund, minus a $25 processing fee (per booking invoice), or the option to reschedule your hike.
7 – 13 days notice prior to your scheduled hike date, you are eligible for an in-store credit that expires 5 years after the date of issue (ie. you can use it to book hikes in future years). Alternatively you could reschedule your hike for the current year, provided that we have availability.
0 – 6 days notice prior your scheduled hike date, you are not eligible for a refund, or an in-store credit, or the option to reschedule your hike. This includes the situation(s) where a hiker opts not to join the hike, or complete the hike. However, we are registered as a charity and we can move your service payment do a donation and issue you a receipt for income tax purposes.
We do not cancel hikes, in advance, due to inclement weather or wildfire smoke.
We will attempt to hike to the fossil sites in all weather conditions. Come prepared to hike in heavy rain, snow, hail, wildfire smoke, lightning storms, and hot weather with no shade (35+ C). Expect to encounter all these conditions even if the weather forecast for Yoho is benign. It is common to have intense heat and snow in the same day.
For safety reasons, we reserve the right to decline clients who may be unprepared to complete the hike safely.
We do not guarantee that all clients (including entire groups) will make it to the fossil site. We will not provide refunds in the event that your group is turned around by your guide due to a safety concern.
2. Waiver Form
It is mandatory that all hikers age 19 and older read the waiver prior to paying for the hike. Failure to sign the document forfeits the right to participate in a guided hike with the BSGF.
Please click on the button below to read the Waiver form document.
3. Privacy and Data Collection Policy
You are consenting to our Privacy and Data Collection Policy.
Please click on the button below to read the policy.
4. Acknowledgement of Risk Form, and Unaccompanied Minor
If your booking includes a minor, the minor’s parent(s) or legal guardian(s) must read and understand the Acknowledgement of Risk Form prior to making a booking. Failure of a parent or legal guardian to sign the document forfeits the right to participate in a guided hike with the BSGF. It is not a waiver of rights. A minor is defined in British Columbia as anyone younger than 19 years of age.
We do not guide minors who are unaccompanied by their parents or an adult custodian/supervisor. If your booking includes a minor who will be unaccompanied by their parents or legal guardian on the hike, it is essential that you either phone or email us to discuss your booking prior to payment. We reserve the right to refuse any minor that is unaccompanied by their parent or legal guardian.
Please click on the button below to read the Acknowledgement of Risk document.
